Free and Easy RSS Workaround...

  • Do you know why RSS Feeds are important?
  • Do you have an older styled internet site that doesn't automatically generate an RSS feed of all the recent new articles, announcement, audios or videos?
  • Do you like the idea of NOT paying your webmaster a bundle$  to re-program your site in order to include such an automated feed?
  • If the answer to these questions is 'YES'... then here's a great solution for you!!!

Simply...

  • Go get a   del.icio.us account-ID. (free, remember?) .  Btw, the following instructions MAY be a little different, depending on del.icio.us updates from time to time.  But the idea is the same.
  • Be consistent... Anytime you post something new at your website, Tag  it with a unique tag... say... 'rssitem'.  Tagging something only takes a few seconds.   (Go ahead, tag a few articles or announcements at your website.)
  • Now at your del.icio.us page, click that unique tag (in your RH list of all tags).... and notice the RSS feed button  at the bottom of that page.  That's the URL of your new feed.
  • Add an RSS button to your website... and link it to that URL of your new feed.  La Voila !  You're done.
  • Just remember now to consistently tag all new items at your site.

A Little More Detail (using examples) If You Need More...

  • Here's my delicious page, for instance.)  Del.icio.us is great for a lot of things other than this RSS workaround... so go get used to it -- tag some great links you want to save, etc.
    • (we need a del.icio.us page here at AskAnythingSaturday.com -- but in the meantime, here's one at Tags4God.com.)
  • Notice down at the bottom of your new page(s) there's an RSS button like this...  (or similar).  (FYI... If you clicked it, it would take you to the URL address of the feed for your page.)
  • Now, click one of your tags (in the RH column at your del.icio.us page).  Example:  innovative.   It takes you to all the links you've (or in this case, I've) tagged using that keyword/tag, right?
  • Notice down at the bottom of this page, there's the RSS button again...  ...right?  (FYI... Thus that's the URL address of the RSS feed for your 'innovative' tagged links.  Y'with me?).
  • So imagine... what if YOU used some UNIQUE tag.... say... 'mynewrssfeed' to special tag your special feed.  And then determined the RSS-feed for it.  And then added a button on your page, alerting your constituency of your new RSS feed that's available for them to easily stay abreast of your latest news, announcements, events, videos, etc.
  • Cell me with questions.
